【Conference in Shanghai】Full Video - Arancha Gonzalez on International Cooperation
On November 5, Sciences Po Shanghai Alumni held a lecture on the theme "International Cooperation: In the Age of Geopolitical Turbulence" for Mrs. Arancha Gonzalez, dean of the Institute of International Affairs at Sciences Po and former Spanish Foreign Minister. Please check the video below for her full speech:
Before Arancha Gonzalez became Spanish Foreign Minister, she worked in global trade at the WTO and the United Nations. In this speech, Mrs. Gonzalez emphasized that globalization has brought connectivity to the world and believed that globalization has four characteristics, namely: open markets, the key role of market laws, the advantages of unified rule systems of international organizations, and economic Laws are greater than geopolitics.
Mrs. Gonzalez also admitted that since the global financial crisis in 2008, globalization has faced weakening and challenges. The inequalities between countries that have emerged in the process of globalization, the challenges brought by climate change, and the national security considerations brought about by various geopolitical events have made many countries begin to rethink the issue of globalization.
Mrs. Gonzalez called for more use of international organizations to coordinate multilateral interests and coexistence issues, avoid trade conflicts, and serve global public interests more. At the same time, each country should also increase investment in social welfare and make the public more supportive of market opening.
