On January 29, 2020, the Airbus CJIP was concluded, emblematically illustrating a tripartite cooperation between the French, American, and British authorities in the fight against transnational corruption.
Four years after the conclusion of this agreement, which marked a major turning point in international anti-corruption enforcement and cooperation between the authorities, a new American law, the Foreign Extortion Prevention Act (FEPA), was adopted to complement the repressive legal framework introduced by the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), forty years prior. This new legislation introduces strengthened anti-corruption measures and now enables the prosecution of the demand-side of foreign bribery, previously overlooked by the FCPA.
The conference will thus offer a comparative analysis of French and American legislation on anti-corruption, with a focus on the FEPA and a reflection on its impact on cooperation between French and American jurisdictions, as well as on companies operating internationally.
Scholars, lawyers, and prosecutors will share their theoretical and practical perspectives on these issues. This meeting will be an opportunity to assess the progress made, identify current challenges, and discuss future strategies to strengthen transatlantic cooperation in the fight against corruption.
