Please join us for a web conference in English with Jérémie Gallon to discuss his recent work on Henry Kissinger's diplomatic legacy and its applications to European politics.

Henry Kissinger is a controversial figure. Some consider him the greatest diplomat of the 20th century; others consider him a war criminal. Yet, he rose to power at a crucial juncture in American history at a time when internal political struggles threatened to distract leaders from their strategic interests abroad. As such, he faced a situation that is not unlike the current situation in Europe. Could his realpolitik approach be the key to strengthening the European Union today?

Henry Kissinger, l’Européen, the new book by Jérémie Gallon, explores how a young refugee from Germany became one of the most influential figures of American diplomacy in the 20th century. Without dismissing the debate over Kissinger's troubled legacy, Jérémie Gallon draws a nuanced portrait of Kissinger's life and diplomatic choices. His goal: to explore how they could serve as a guide to the current leaders of the EU as they face similar crises.

A lecturer at Sciences Po on diplomacy and EU foreign policy, Jérémie Gallon is currently the Senior Director and Head for Europe of the geopolitical consultancy firm McLarty Associates. Prior to assuming his current position, he started his career as a lawyer, worked for the World Bank in the Balkans and he was the Senior Political Advisor to the EU's Ambassador to the United States. In this role, he covered a broad range of topics including multilateral and global governance, EU-US cooperation on the migration crisis, UN affairs and human rights. More recently, Mr Gallon was Managing Director of AmCham France. In addition to Henry Kissinger, l’Européen, he has also authored Journal d’un jeune diplomate dans l’Amérique de Trump, an account of his experiences as a European diplomat in America during the rise of Donald Trump. Jérémie Gallon is also foreign policy columnist at L’Express.
